Pups + Grub

There was a major squeal-fest, as you might have guessed, when we saw that embroidered apron on our waiter! When he brought those glasses with our bottle of wine - yes, you've guessed right again! - he was greeted with yet more happy squeals. Those pups (the owner's corgi and Jack Russell) and our genuinely lovely waiter, Al, scored big points for the new-in-our-'hood Rainford Street Social on Sunday afternoon way before their hearty-and-comforting-yet-so-clean food hit our table. A beetroot salad with a sprinkle of crunchy gingerbread surprise. Potted duck + pear relish. Pork crackling. Superbly-cooked mackerel. Thrice-cooked chips. And that dessert - burnt cream (we like our creme brulee in a wide shallow dish - more surface area covered with torched sugar!) + a side of liquid cheesecake and salted pastry twirls. All big points-scoring stuff! Stuff that makes losing Bird Cow Fish's (the restaurant that was previously in that corner spot) very special prawn gnocchi kind of alright.
